Dhaka, Mar 11 (UNB)-As Islamic leaders Tuesday warned that the alem community would not accept anything against the Quran and Sunnah, Law Advisor Hassan Ariff assured that the National Women Development Policy (NWDP) doesnt contain anything about the Muslim inheritance law.
I would like to say categorically that the policy did not contain any statement about the inheritance law--even it did not indicate any such thing directly or indirectly, he said during a meeting with Islamic leaders on the NWDP that stirred controversies in different circles.
Maulana Kamal Uddin Zafri, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Dr Mustafizur Rahman, Maulna Mufti Syed Ahmed and Senior Pesh Imam of National Baitul Mukarram Mosque Mufti Noor Uddin spoke at the meeting at the Islamic Foundation.

The Law Advisor said the announced policy is not the final. More discussions will be held on it before final approval.
Maulana Kamal Uddin Zafri said as far he had gone through the policy, he did not find anything that suggests equal rights of women on inheritance. However, he said the government must announce that no law will be formulated against Quran and Sunnah.
Maulana Zafri further said there should be policy that prohibits use of women as commodity. Womens status should be ensured in accordance with Islam, he said.
